Gregg and I just got back from Photo Field Trip in El Capitan Canon, Santa Barbara. We got the chance to hang out , be inspired, learn and make friends with some incredibly inspiring photographers – all while glamping, hiking and soaking up the California sun in an outrageously beautiful setting! Basically it is summer camp for “grown ups”!

One of the highlights of the trip was sitting around a campfire with Jose Villa, the photographer who really inspired me to get into wedding photography. When I saw his work for the first time something really hit home. I have always been so blown away by the beauty and artistry of his images. After spending a while talking with him and hearing stories from his incredible life and career, I feel inspired by how down to earth and genuine he remains.

I have so much to be grateful for after this inspiration experience. Going back through my pages and pages of notes, perhaps the biggest takeaway for me is to trust my instincts and dig even deeper into my art and craft. One thing I heard time and time again from all those talented photographers and artists was to challenge yourself to go outside your comfort zone. I am happy to report that every single one of these accomplished photographers achieved their success by pushing themselves.

Thank you to the lovely couple who volunteered to model for Ben & Katch’s class and expose yourself to the paparazzi of excited photographers!
